mldavis2, that is one way of looking at it, saying that the Prime Members paid a fee that absorbed the delivery fee in advance.
I will guarantee you that if you subtracted the costs of free shipping and of two day delivery alone from that fee the cost of my member ship was defrayed within a month of the payment and then you must add to the 11 or more months of no costs the benefit of getting free stuff like video streaming, etc.
