In case anyone is curious, I found out the size, seems ~790mb is for B&N data, ~240mb for user data, and rest is used for system/OS related things of the 2gb of internal storage.
Not a big deal as others have said since it seems you can just use up to a 32gb sd card.
The more I look into details, I'm moving Nook STR to top of my list for the first e-Ink device I plan o buying. It is running a full fledged version of Android 2.1 and it seems fairly easy to get root access to allow you to install other applications from the Android Market.
