I loved reading on my Palm. The program I used had a feature where you could set a scroll speed and it'd just start playing, and you could sit and read without ever thinking about "turning the page", occasionally adjusting the speed based on the content (up/down arrows on the front) or pausing it if it was getting ahead of you. I miss that feature. While lower resolution, the original Palm screens were similar to eInk in that they were retro-reflective and didn't emit light. Overall a great experience! I've actually considered trying to find an old Palm as a second reader since they're smaller and can be carried in a pocket.
