To confirm the last point in what's really just a digression: I own a Kindle, a PRS-350 and a PRS-950. Looking at the same images on all three, I did not find any appreciable difference apart from dpi on the 350.

To test the Kindle and the 950, I cut out rectangles in white pieces of cardboard (making sure the rectangles were smaller than the actual screens). Any difference I'd perceived vanished with the cardboard borders placed on both readers.

One could perform the same test using skins with identical designs or colors (though skins allow the edges of the original borders to peek through).
