I'm home from jury duty. In this county we have a "one day or one trial" rule, so if you don't get selected for a jury on the day that you report, you don't have to go back the next day. I went through
voir dire for a case, but ended up not getting selected so I've done my duty, at least until I get called again! Yippee!
I used to take knitting with me because sometimes there are long periods of down time, but we had a shooting in this courthouse (the
Brian Nichols case) a few years ago in which a judge and several other people were killed, and security is tight now. Sometimes you can get knitting needles in, and sometimes you can't, so I put a tatting shuttle in my pocket and made a little bit of lace today. Jury duty is a great place for people watching, so even though I had my Kindle with me I never did any reading. A woman in the row ahead of me was reading on one, though.
