At the risk of BEATING A DEAD HORSE, I think the jury may still be out on that. Anecdata aside, I haven't seen any genuine studies on LCD/eInk eyestrain.
Heck, I can't find a meaningful scientific definition of "eyestrain". If it's just "how people feel", that can be highly prone to suggestion. I'd like to see something measurably defined and studied.
I don't have a bone in the fight; I just don't think the tech has been out long enough for the medical fields to catch up. If we're building off anecdata, I personally don't get 'eyestrain' on eInk or LCD devices.
So probably the dead horse would be:
EYESTRAIN ON A <INSERT DEVICE HERE> IS INEVITABLE AND*/OR IMPOSSIBLE AND CLAIMING OTHERWISE IS A PRODUCT OF A DERANGED IMAGINATION.
* note that "inevitable" and "impossible" are mutually exclusive, but that's why it's a DEAD HORSE.
