A way to avoid those foreign transaction fees with Kobo is to use gift cards. I get charged 2% on each purchase from Kobo. It can really add up. So I just buy a gift card and use that instead. I do get charged 2% on the gift card purchase but it cheaper then per purchase charge of just using a credit card when I want something.
