We pulled up carpet and found the beautiful hardwood floor underneath. Put on a new roof, and find the under roof was solid hardwood boards. Gut the bathroom, and find solid wood underneath. Anytime I hanged a picture on the wall, a pilot hole had to be drilled into that hard hard wood. The closet we were in was specially reinforced, with a bench to sit on behind a thick wooden section.
The engineer thinks that all of the tongue-and-groove was able to slide around and "flex" enough to save us.
