People can probably find $10 to invest in books a month, even if they can't invest $140 at one time.

I think the KSO will probably be an okay deal for people like tubemonkey, but I don't think this is a case of Amazon giving away Kindles. I'm sure Amazon doesn't expect most people to come out ahead on the deals in the short term. A Kindle is a long-term investment, not a short-term one.
