No, that stirred coke is not a myth; when you travel in exotic countries and your stomach is upset and you have to(you know.....run to the bathroom! or puke) it is very good. As is weak tea with some sugar/salt/eeny meeny milk.

That having said: I always take my antibiotics with me when I go to the Orient/Asia. Three days 2x1, and you cured of everything you had that was wrong.
