In Australia it's called a Pluto Pup.

also known as a Dagwood Dog
A unique delicacy sold in specialist eateries at carnivals, circuses and country shows. Usually purchased from trailers, tents and bench top stalls.
Method:
Take 300 hot dogs and boil.
Store in tepid water until they are required.
Employ young child to impale hot dogs with a sticks length way in batches of 20
Remove previously mixed batter from cool room and poor into container
Dunk hot dog on a stick into batter but not the stick
Deep fry in vegetable oil that is never changed and only topped up occasional to change the colour from black to brown.
When the batter is cooked properly it should be golden
Take the dark brown Pluto Pup and display them in the window of the trailer by standing them up on their sticks.
When purchasing a Pluto Pup it is mandatory to dunk the delicacy in a deep container of tomato sauce (ketchup) before consuming to hide the taste.
mmmmmm I'm getting hungry just writing about them
NOTE: The feline population has been known to decline in the area after the Pluto Pup sellers open for business
