While no backlit LCDs are good in direct sunlight, some are better than others in daylight and it's a fair question to ask whether one can read one on the bus with sunlight coming in the windows.

I haven't tried mine in a similar situation (wrong time of year for that here) but I have managed to read outside (albeit not well) on my Palm T|X at the National Mall in DC during summer.

I just don't know how much ambient light you can have and still get legibility out of the NC's screen.
