Sounds familiar. When my optometrist was advising on my choices for cataract surgery, he mentioned that the guy he considered the very best also had "... the bedside manner of a porcupine." Still, that was who I went with. Having grown up in New England I could relate to his very dry Polish-accented humor, but I could see how it would be a lead balloon to someone raised in the American South.
