That makes no sense to me. Apple products have never been seen as a "bargain". On the contrary, the anti-Apple bigots claim that Apple overcharges for their products in order to maintain their "boutique" status... that by being overpriced they have generated a certain "snob appeal". (I don't believe that, but that is the claim of most people who dislike Apple)
So if that is the case, then the competition can easily produce product of equal or greater value at a price that is lower than what Apple charges.
The competition is deliberately trying to sell their tablets at higher prices than the iPad because they want to avoid a "race to the bottom" (price-wise). Netbooks experienced an accelerated race-to-the-bottom that ended up not being very profitable. These companies want to avoid a repeat of that.
