A chap elsewhere is a police office in Atlanta, GA. He wrote a post a while back about something like that. He'd injured himself and was on desk duty while he recovered. A guy called the police looking for protection. He'd apparently tried to rob a store, and the store people resisted, foiled the attempt, and were after him with blood in their eye.

He just said "Yes, sir. Come right down to the station. We'll take care of you!". When the guy walked in, he was was cuffed and booked, and held for trial. It was the first instance anyone on the force knew of where the arrest had been made by a seated officer in the station.

(It was also one more data point supporting the notions that most criminals are profoundly stupid.)
