Twenty years ago some friends of mine bought a week-end house along the Japan Sea coast. It was a very traditional old farm house, with a typical
Japanese squat toilet. These are set flush (no pun intended) to the floor. They ordered a western style toilet, which at the time were fairly unknown in Japan, and hired a contractor to install it for them. When they arrived the following week-end, they found that the contractor had done a very neat job of installation, except for the fact that he installed it with the seat flush with the floor!
