Ah, but the situation with ePub and Amazon's own format is unlike any of the mentioned examples. You can read DRM-free ePubs on pretty much anything else. Amazon stands alone against
the standard.
BTW, one of your examples, Blue Ray not being able to play on DVD players is an issue of technical obsolescence. Blue Ray players play DVD's just fine.
