BN has nothing to fear from the various bok stores that sell books DRMed with the Adobe DRM. Sony has a weak selection and used to be more expensive. Kobo does not have as good a selection as BN. The independent stores do not have the same selection as BN and fill in the niche gaps that exist at BN.

Essentially, BN is not going to be losing business to those stores and BN knows that. It is like telling folks that you are free to shop from our fully stocked grocery store and hey, its ok to bring in stuff from the store next door. The one where the shelves are half empty and everything is over priced.

It looks nice but really, there is not much there. BN looks magnanimous and still makes money from the sales of its ebooks.
