Assam is getting to be my favorite tea, now that I've discovered the East India Company's Assam. It's great! The same type of tea from other companies doesn't compare... for my taste buds.

I find Assam to be one of the richest of all the black teas, without being too strong, followed closely by China Black. That China Golden Yunnan you received might be right in the same ballpark. The Keemun teas tend to be very very rich but also very very strong, which is why they so often get used as part of a blend, though I like 'em straight. Most folks seem to prefer Ceylon teas as they are so very smooth and easy in the mouth, and make up the bulk of the blended tea constitutions, as well as the 'usual' stuff found in supermarket tea bags and restaurant tea bulk sales.

Supermarket teas such as Lipton's, Bigelow, Red Rose, Dai Pai Dong, Brook Bond, Tetley, etc., tend to be blends of Ceylon teas, blended to give a 'consistent' taste, rather than a distinctive taste. That said, some of them can be very, very good tasting teas, especially if you can find them in loose leaf form rather than already bagged. Brook Bond does most of its business selling in bulk to restaurants and hotels, and makes a really nice cup of Ceylon tea that can be enjoyed any time of day.
