I did try that. I have a feeling it may be this one book. I have had other issues with this book (including locking up of the Kobo regularly), so in my case it may just be a bad ePub.

The cover stopped displaying suddenly when I power off now. I opened the e-pub and it is split into a huge amount of html files, so I am guessing that it is having issues finding the cover.

I have also had issues when I open the book from power off, the page displays as blank except for the small page number on the right hand side. Paging forward or backward one page, and then back to that page corrects it.

I'll be trying another book shortly.

I haven't had any issues with the Kobo from the time I bought it until this one book. The other Kobo in the house had never had an issue. Not sure when we'll move it to the new firmware - no real hurry since it's working great.

Thanks taming, and sorry if this was off topic.

I will be creating an SD card to use in case I need to reapply the firmware, and for upgrading the 2nd Kobo.

It was indeed an issue with the book. While I was building the SD Card, I used Calibre to convert the ePub to a LIT file, and then deleted the ePub and converted it back from a LIT to an ePub. Whatever was causing the issue looks like it was in the TOC, or the HTML structure in the ePub. The conversion seems to have stripped out whatever was causing the issue.

Happiness reigns. Off to finish my book. Thanks for your assistance.
