I'm no expert, but I think it is a bit of a trade off. It used to be that you could do that multiple click thing, but it also used to be that the new chapters/sections did not open until the entire chapter/section had loaded. Now the chapters/sections open after the first page has loaded (well, pretty much), but the load has to be complete on each page before you can request a new one. FWIW, if the improvements to the desktop application function as they should, a quickie for kepub files is to plug in, open the book in the desktop application, and use the TOC and mouse click combo to move through the book faster when you have lots of pages/clicks.
