I must say, I'm glad I learned to drive in Illinois. I think it prepared me to drive everywhere. In my opinion (and from watching others), I think it's a lot easier to learn to drive in the country or some other type of city after first learning to drive in a place like Chicago, than the reverse. My husband, who has been driving over a decade longer than me, stresses out big time when we go to Chicagoland. I have to drive so we don't both go crazy. While in Driver's Ed in high school, they brought a cop in to talk to us. Someone asked how fast we can go without getting pulled over, and he basically said the 9 rule to a bunch of hormonal, power-hungry teenagers "we won't stop you if you go 9 over, but we'll getcha at 10..."
