I saw this thread bemoaning the change weeks ago. I personally don't care that much either way. As long as I can lock the screen rotation one way or the other.

Now, the ability to dim/brighten the screen from that mini-control app, I find VERY useful. All my reading apps have dimmers, but not for the web. Now all the apps can be easily dimmed.

Locking the screen rotation is not some emergency type of action that it really matters to me whether I do it by a switch on the side, or by bringing up the mini-control.

On the list of things that annoy me about iOS in general, this doesn't even make the top 10. How about access to the file system so that apps can share access to the same files -- so I don't have to load a pdf into each and every app I might want to use to view it.
