My lap top has somehow acquired a virus by the name of 'Security Tool' which I did not download, as I had heard about it a week ago on TV, but will it let me get into any program to kill it? Not bl**dy likely! It is all pervasive, so I'm venting on my desktop computer.
Went into Windows and there are nineteen pages of people trying to get rid of it.
Be afraid; be very, very afraid.

Is this by any chance something that promotes itself by what appears to be a Microsoft Security Essentials alert, pointing you to a website to download to a tool to delete a detected threat?
If so, very bad indeed. It bit a writer friend, and I spent part of a weekend retrieving her manuscript in process and her My Documents folder.
She apparently picked up a rootkit, and none of the tools I had would find or remove it.
She wound up getting a new machine. (She planned to anyway, just not right now.) I probably could have resurrected the old one, once I understood what I was dealing with, but she decided now was the time to upgrade, so I assisted in the process.
Going over for dinner now, as it happens, to restore things from backups to CD I created.
Fun.
