I don't think that it does, or at least not completely. IT blocks off one avenue that can be used to do that while at the same, goes a long way to prevent another 9/11 type attack.

I dont think that there is anyway to be 100% sure, as recent events have shown.

Yes, as a matter of fact I do. No, probably not 100%, but mostly, yes, it is about security, and giving the public a reasonable belief that they are protected as well as can be when they fly.

Sure, companies made money off of the sale of the devices but those devices arouse because of the need, not the other way around, unless you think that the scanner manufacturers are involved in international terrorism.
