So it sounds like you have a choice between using UPS or the USPS for the shipping? Reorder the Kindle and choose the other shipping method. I agree that what happened is annoying. I've had a series of FedEx delivery people here that have pulled similar stunts and as a result I try to avoid FedEx when possible.
But in the end, remember the phrase "Cutting off your nose to spite your face."
If you really want an iPAD or nook over a Kindle that's one thing. But I assume you chose the Kindle for a reason and that reason is probably still valid. So, fix the problem and get your Kindle.
