In the U.S. recent court ruling has actually stated that it is legal to remove DRM as long as you are going to use your mp3/book for yourself only and not for illegal activities.
I don't know how it is in EU and other parts of the world but Im hoping that in the next 5-10 years things will change. Either way, you can always come to U.S. remove DMR and comeback to wherever you are from. LOL
