He's not the problem. If I were in your position, my next step would be considering why I got involved with him in the first place, and how to avoid repeating that sort of mistake.
It's not as simple as to tell him things straight- he's not the kind of person who would understand that. (Sometimes it happens: a friend of mine dumped her boyfriend and she was quite gentle until, apparently, he said something like "but it's just temporary, isn't it"- at that point she was quite enraged- I can remember a lenghty phone call . There's none so deaf as he who will not hear.)

As for the repeating of the mistake, well, I think the mistake is called love, and you can't avoid it- there's always too little of that. On the other hand, what one can do is try to work it out, which is what I am used to do and apparently he isn't, which lead to lot of "fumbling with truth" on his side (= lying) and then a lot of badly-thought action afterwards.

On the hand of frequenting, well, he's afraid of the Library where I usually go to work, because "there are people I hate there". (Well, the inmates aren't always the best, but the library is very good and I think it's a fantastic place to work into...) So I don't have that problem that much. The "staying friends" would meant for him- I suppose- go out together. Yes, and asses will fly.

(The more I think about that, the more I think I'm better off without him :P)

Thank you may I keep this promise as a bonus if he doesn't behave? *hugs*
