I have much sympathy for you difficulty with sour cream. I live in a country where it is totally unknown, and totally absent from the shelfs of grocery stores. And I love it so much, for potatoes, for dips and for humanizing soups. But you get yogurt, right? and lemon juice, right? And cream. I am sure that you get cream. If not, get condensed milk instead of cream, The one that Argentinian use to make dulche de leche. With those ingredients you can make as much sour cream you want, and by storing it in the fridge, you will be able to have your dad smiling happily with his baked potatoes, and more!
