I wonder if the benefits of reading aloud are somewhat overlooked these days.
As part of my teacher training, I had to learn about learning styles. I always found that fascinating. Touch, sound, and sight were the styles I concentrated on the most. When I could tailor an assignment to a student's style, it was magic how easily they learned. When I could work all three styles into a class, that was always fun. It was adult students in college prep and criminals the judge sent to me, so we would take a few minutes for me to stand up and lecture, then break into pairs to read and discuss supplemental articles (oh, how I would have loved to have an Internet back then), and I would try to have something relevant for them to hold and feel during the discussion. It was like they were absorbing knowledge and concepts via osmosis!

So it seems like you and I both learn best by listening. I never took a single useful note in my life. I would listen and remember. Were you like that also?
