Sony Reader Walkman

Remember the Walkman, Sony's popular brand? Once it was so powerful that it was synonymously used to refer to any portable music device. And if we read the minds of Sony's people right, they are planning to achieve the same for the Reader among e-readers. Gizmodo, who is reporting live from the Sony press event @ CES 2007, has this tiny, yet interesting bit of remark:

Quote:
5:17: Now the portable media guy is here. He's digging out their UMPCs, Vaios, and Sony Reader ("the Walkman of the written word").

Think I can beat you.

The Apollo Astronauts took the predecessor to the Walkman with them. Sony actually sold I think in limited quantity. I have one that Father brought back in 1971.

If want can post pix of it. Its all aluminum.

My first Sony Walkman was yellow, thick, and supposedly waterproof. It was actually a prototype which never made it into stores. This must have been like 20 years ago

And the gallery of full size pictures...

They made around 36,000 of the TC-50.

PS: I remember that Sony was always big on service manuals. Could there be one for the Reader? ^_^

Wow, you guys have me going back to the 80's. When I was 16 and working, I wanted the best of the newest in music players. I went into Service Merchandise and purchased the Sony Walkman WM-F100 which at the time was the most portable high tech walkman available. It was rechargable, had an EQ on the front, and was a little bigger than a cassette. It also included an attachment for the bottom to piggyback a AA battery for more time. It also came with a case, I loved that walkman. found some photos of it on the internet.

knockoff Walkmans...

Anyone else remember the ads in the back of Stereo Review in the late 70's with the great products from some guy named "Drew" who explained how he wasn't normally inclined to promote this or that item but when it crossed his desk the sensational sound quality literally BLEW HIM AWAY?
