Is a new Palm LifeDrive imminent? (rumor)

PalmAddicts has some evidence (scant evidence, but you know how it goes) that Palm is planning to release a new Palm LifeDrive model next month:

Quote:
Scott just emailed me with this snippet of information he received hinting of a new LifeDrive coming in February.. "Hi I just want to tell you, that in my country (Slovenia) stop selling LifeDrive. Reseller said the new LifeDrive is on the way. It comes out in february. Have a nice day, Simon."

As we all know, I always look to Slovenia for my tech news.

I wonder what improvements are in store for the next version of the LifeDrive. I haven't been keeping track of the LD or it's pros/cons. Something about the entire device emptying during any type of reset, drive issues, no vibrating alarm,...

I'd hate to give up the gaming wonderfulness of my great Z2, but I might like a huge hard drive and built-in WiFi. Maybe gaming isn't so bad on the LD?

I wouldn't put too much stock into this. One Slovenian retailer isn't exactly a credible source.

They addressed the issue of the entire drive being formatted during a hard reset in the LifeDrive Update 2.0, which now gives the option of only formatting the Program Memory and not the entire Internal Drive contents.

Based on past statements by Jeff Hawkins at the Palm Analyst Day presentation when asked about HDD vs solid-state storage, I tend to think that we have a good chance of seeing a much thinner LD2 that does away with the HDD in favor of 4GB + of NAND flash. Lower power, no performance hits, and the ability to create ultra thin form factor devices like the iPod Nano.

Hello,

Considering this thread appears dead, i figured i'd bring up a question... Or a couple questions...

1) What does everyone think about the validity of the rumor? ... personally, i'd like to see palm break from its normal release schedule for once... moreover, i've been wanting to replace my aging T5 with something LD-like -- however the LD is getting sort of old itself.

2) Has this "source" provided any reliable information in the past?

3) Out of curiosity, who (besides me) would like to see a "LD2" released soon?
