Playing Doom on Apple's iPod

Porting id Software's classic Doom game to a new and significantly limited platform is a hacker's relief from boredom and an open door to fame. Now some crazy dudes have managed to write a playable port running on iPod Linux (see screenshots). It still lacks certain features such an overhead map and weapon switching. But who cares as long as you can shoot some hideous green-eyed monsters in the face?

This port only works on 1-4G's and Mini 1G/2G. So we're still fantasizing about playing Doom on the iPod Shuffle.

I can officially say, those iPod Linux guys are nuts...

Although this makes the iPod 'officially' a computer now. "If it runs DOOM, it's a computer." I read that saying somewhere.... Can't remember where. =)

A bit of a slow frame rate to be really playable, don't you think?

I've seen worse. Considering what the iPod was originally meant for, I think the results here are amazing!

I think the only way to realistically play Doom on the Shuffle is to turn the entire world into monsters and the shuffle into a gun....

Well, it could work, right?
