palmOne Tungsten C2 hitting stores in April?

More for the palmOne rumor mill! A user from the Philippine Palm User group posted a picture of what could be the Tungsten C2.

I have an "acquaintance" that works for a tech retailer who took the risk to take the following photo with his cell phone, cropped it and sent it to me. (I will not share any details about the company or location, for obvious reasons). He says this volume should mail for the week of April 18th and would hit consumers within days. PalmOne must have an announcement before then it would seem?

According to the specs posted by the user, the C2 would have a 624mhz processor, 802.11g wireless (g!), a 2GB Flash drive, and runs on Palm OS Cobalt. Suggested price tag: $499.

A *big* thank you to ortaliz for the heads up!

Edit: Turns out to be just another fake.

Now that looks interesting. It seems to have all the features of my TC, but all the benefits that I see in the Zodiac.

If it doesn't use a proprietary headset, I would by this.

Engadget e-mailed me back saying that the ad looks fake. On a second look (look closely at the texture of the ad and how it compares to the rest of the page), he might be right. What is your guess. Fake or not fake?

It's fake. It's a compressed Treo 650 w/ no antenna and w/ the two selection buttons taken out for "dots".

Interesting, though...

I tend to agree. It would have been nice, specs-wise, but the ad just doesn't look real to me ;(

My guess is it's going to be announced in 36 hours...April 1, to be exact.

TC2?

I saw that too, but the picture was bigger and clearer and showed it was really a mag. I'll try to find that link. Also heard that Palmsource was ready with the Blackberry connect thing and that PalmOne was going to release a Treo device that rivaled the BB. This says nothing about cell tech, but is exactly what I've heard about as far as landscape orientation and keyboard

I would not throw this one off just yet.
