Breaking News: Hawkins' secret project coming next year

For quite a while we've been longing to hear more about the secret project that Jeff Hawkins has revealed some time ago. He has a great track record, so we have every expectations that it will be another success. It is probably the rumored "third line of business" that would complement PDAs and smart phones.

According to Michael Mace, "Ed Colligan, CEO of Palm, gave a talk this morning. Afterward I asked him if we'll see next year the secret project that Jeff Hawkins has been working on. 'Yes,' he said, and moved immediately to another question." One can appreciate the pent up desire to see his next project, when the simple acknowledgement of it being revealed next year is news!

He's the founder of Palm!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Hawkins

Now, more recently he's been working on Artificial Intelligence.

And here's a related thread on the secret third line of business...

Let's just hope when it comes out, it will be more substance than hype. I remember the time before Segway comes out, everyone including Jeff Bezos was saying it will be the next big thing, and will change the way the world works, but it isn't as revolutionary, and failed to ignite the world on fire...

Then again, Jeff's not hyping it... we are....

To be honest, the Segway was still a pretty neat contraption! Pretty pricey, but nifty. If Jeff is that innovative and comes up with something that nifty, you'd have to consider it a win. Of course, practical is important also if we actually are going to buy one. But think about his history... he seems to be very good at taking a fancy idea and then finding a down-to-earth way of making it practical and useful, and helping everyone else understand how much sense it makes.

Let's hope he's got another winner up his sleeve!

I would love to have a Segway, unfortunately they are illegal to operate where I am; the results of a Senior Citizen lobby at City Hall, so I get run over by their scooters on the sidewalk.

Am waiting to see what this mystery product is... my guess is that it will have a newfangled radio in it, not from Broadcomm or Qualcomm.

Segway in the snow? They have an offroad model with knobby tires. I'd love to see some stuntrider on ice! As for the cold, I don't think batteries will cut it here, like any other exterior gadget. But the segway has a spinoff in the wheelchair that goes down stairs.

I have an idea for them that would be appreciated by ambulance personnel. A remote controlled motorized gurney that would stay horizontal in stairways!

One good invention, to me the best this fellow Dean Kamen did, is an electrical power generator (stirling engine)that can use any fuel available, even animal refuse! Now that is what this planet needs!
