Buy a backup Sony 505 before they're extinct?
I love my Sony 505 so much. It's still working perfectly after 20 months. But they are no longer made, and the number of outlets having them in stock is shrinking.
Should I buy a backup while they are still available or just pray my current device lives forever? |

I wouldn't buy a "backup". If you just leave it in a drawer, unused, for a year or two, if and when you do come to want to use it, the battery is going to be dead.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a back-up of something I already have as I would always be worried that something better comes out at some point in the future. |

I thought about getting another 505. My local Target had 5 left - now down to 1. Never lowered the price! I decided to watch the new the new readers coming out. For now, I still have my 505 and am enjoying reading on it very much!

I agree with Bilbo1967. Besides, although you may not care for the 300 or 600, either one would make a very decent substitute till something better came along. I've had my 505 for 21 months and am as hooked on it as you are but could live with a 300.

I'm curious, is it the high resolution screen of the 505 that makes you covet it more than the cheaper 300 or the more capable 600?

I feel the same as RCR. I refuse to sacrifice screen clarity, so the 600 is out of the question. The 300's screen is good, but it's too small and doesn't have expandable memory. Right now the 505 is the only device that meets my needs, so it's easy to get paranoid about what will happen if mine breaks or dies.

Any US folks looking for a 505, or a backup 505, check Target. I just got back from one and they had the 505 on clearance for $237

I've read over and over again on these forums that the 505 (and now the 300) is unsurpassed when it comes to screen quality. Everybody uses eInk, but it doesn't look the same on every device.

I really must disagree with you. Every 6" device uses the same screen, made on the same production line in the same factory by the same company (PVI in Taiwan). They really are all identical. How many other 6" devices have you compared side-by-side with your PRS-505?
