Post Introducing OpenIliad.com

I've long thought that we need a dedicated place for users to find applications and tutorials for the iLiad and all of it's possibilities. The Mobileread forums are great, but they aren't the best organized for finding all of the information you may need.

Given that iRex is soon going to be releasing the sources for the iLiad, our need for an organized community site has grown even further.

This is why I've created OpenIliad.com.

The site is still in it's infancy, and we need your help to build it up.

It provides an organized way of submitting and finding applications and programs for the iLiad. The site also has easy to find tutorials and links to relevant MobileRead forums, Wiki Posts, and the Dev Hub.

If you want to submit an application or make a comment, you will need to register. I will continue to add applications from the release forum in an effort to make the site more complete.

Feel free to post any comments or suggestions that you may have.

Great idea. I can see this becoming the defacto landing spot for iLiad users as iRex releases the complete source code for community development.

Fantastic! I've already registered.

One suggestion I have is that you might add a section where we could post hardware hacks. I'm not sure how many there will be, but it would be good to have a place for them. I have a battery hack I'll be posting, and I know there was at least one other battery hack before me. I'm sure some bright folks will come up with other nifty hardware hacks.

Well, done, Adam!

Great Idea.
I've not yet selected my e-ink reader, and Iliad is one of my preferred choices, and the software added in openiliad will be determinant for the next buy.
Can i ask some features that i would like to find in Iliad?
For example compatibility with chessbase files, or support for djvu files?

Thanks in advance

Excellent initiative. Already registered and submitted (just to try ). Looks promising.

What about a reward program for developers (e.g. PayPal donations)? I think that will help to boost the activity.

This so rocks I love you. Its really annoying trying to go through the posts to find out what is the latest version of the software and which file to download. I'm all for the one stop shop

/me is amazed. Brilliant move there.

BTW: """Unable to send e-mail. Please contact the site admin, if the problem persists."""

Also can any user improve the tutorials by the wiki principle, or is a traditional cathedral-like authorship model?

This is a known problem, I've yet to get email setup on the server. Your account should still be working, however.

All of the tutorials are linked pages in the Mobileread wiki. Users can add and modify them as needed.

Indeed it does, I just did what the text told me to do

Great idea! Once my iLiad is back from the repair shop (again) I'll certainly be willing to test software and report back, though I have no programming skills whatsoever.

What I'd like to see in new iLiad software is search facilities within documents (across documents would be even nicer!), an integrated file manager, and multi-tasking, so I can switch between a book and a notepad file to make notes about it. Well, I can dream...

Made my login. I like what you've done with the site theme.

We have a collection of feature requests we've been building specifically for the Content Lister (including document switching). Should that continue to live here at MR, or at the new site?
