Sony Reader conquers Europe - Germany is next

It's not a secret that Sony Germany has been eyeing the Sony Reader for their local market, but now we got some hard facts, thanks to the Spiegel magazine who talked to Sony at the Ifa exhibit in Berlin:

Quote:
Auf der Ifa in Berlin zeigte Sony den Reader erstmals in Deutschland und versprach, das Gerät noch in diesem Jahr auch hierzulande einzuführen.
So still in this year we should be expecting to see the Sony Reader in German stores. Furthermore:

Quote:
Sony is planning something similar to Sony Connect for Germany, and they are promising to tell us more about their plans at the Frankfurt Bookfair in October.

I think Sony has finally realized that if they want to get into the market they have to get their product out there and stop relying on Brand recognition. They have even started a road show in the States. Maybe Amazon will follow suit and the world will have some more choices.

Waterstones (UK's largest bookseller) are using banner ads on popular websites such as Multimap to publicize the launch of the Sony in the UK on the 3rd of September. They certainly seem to be taking it seriously.

If I buy a Reader in Germany, can I also buy books from the US, here in Italy?

There are Watersone's shops here? Weird, I haven't noticed any. Or did you mean the UK online shop?

Both packaging and documentation has been bilingual since the initial release last year.

There is one in Brussels, at the Boulevard Adolphe Maxlaan. There is one in the Netherlands as well, in Amsterdam at the Kalverstraat. They push the Sony there too (saw the preorder adverts there myself last Saturday)

Yes, they have a branch here, Boulevard Adolphe Maxlaan 71-75. The price for PSR-505 is 249 euro IIRC and buyer gets some extra points on his account.

I have pre ordered my sony reader from Waterstones in Chelsmford and have just phoned them to check on collection arrangements. To my surprise there will be no large queues to cope with as they have only pre sold 4 readers.
