Kick off summer reading by choosing any or all of the 3 books below:

WAR BRIDES
by Helen Bryan

An international bestseller with over one million readers.

With war threatening to spread from Europe to England, the sleepy village of Crowmarsh Priors settles into a new sort of normal: Evacuees from London are billeted in local homes. Nightly air raids become grimly mundane. The tightening vice of rationing curtails every comfort. Men leave to fight and die. And five women forge an unlikely bond of friendship that will change their lives forever.

Alice Osbourne, the stolid daughter of the late vicar, is reeling from the news that Richard Fairfax broke their engagement to marry Evangeline Fontaine, an American girl from the Deep South. Evangeline’s arrival causes a stir in the village—but not the chaos that would ensue if they knew her motives for being there. Scrappy Elsie Pigeon is among the poor of London who see the evacuations as a chance to escape a life of destitution. Another new arrival is Tanni Zayman, a young Jewish girl who fled the horrors of Europe and now waits with her newborn son, certain that the rest of her family is safe and bound to show up any day. And then there’s Frances Falconleigh, a madcap, fearless debutante whose father is determined to keep her in the countryside and out of the papers.

As the war and its relentless hardships intensify around them, the same struggles that threaten to rip apart their lives also bring the five closer together. They draw strength from one another to defeat formidable enemies—hunger, falling bombs, the looming threat of a Nazi invasion, and a traitor in their midst—and find remarkable strength within themselves to help their friends. Theirs is a war-forged loyalty that will outlast the fiercest battle and endure years and distance.

When four of the women return to Crowmarsh Priors for a VE Day celebration fifty years later, television cameras focus on the heartwarming story of these old women as war brides of a bygone age, but miss the more newsworthy angle. The women’s mission is not to commemorate or remember—they’ve returned to settle a score and avenge one of their own.

FOLLOW YOU HOME
by Mark Edwards

The page-turning psychological thriller from the author of #1 bestsellers The Magpies and Because She Loves Me.

It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, a final adventure before settling down. But after a perfect start, an encounter with a young couple on a night train forces Daniel and Laura to cut their dream trip short and flee home.

Back in London, Daniel and Laura vow never to talk about what happened that night. But as they try to fit into their old lives again, they realise they are in terrible danger—and that their nightmare is just beginning…

TIMEBOUND (The Chronos Files Book 1)
by Rysa Walker

2013 Winner — Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award — Grand Prize and Young Adult Fiction Winner

When Kate Pierce-Keller’s grandmother gives her a strange blue medallion and speaks of time travel, sixteen-year-old Kate assumes the old woman is delusional. But it all becomes horrifyingly real when a murder in the past destroys the foundation of Kate’s present-day life. Suddenly, that medallion is the only thing protecting Kate from blinking out of existence.

Kate learns that the 1893 killing is part of something much more sinister, and her genetic ability to time travel makes Kate the only one who can fix the future. Risking everything, she travels back in time to the Chicago World’s Fair to try to prevent the murder and the chain of events that follows.

Changing the timeline comes with a personal cost—if Kate succeeds, the boy she loves will have no memory of her existence. And regardless of her motives, does Kate have the right to manipulate the fate of the entire world?

I'm getting errors too, not exactly the same. First one just errored out, like it couldn't find the page. Then the page loaded, but failed when I tried logging in. And page loads are insanely slow, which is probably part of the problem.

I'm not sure what is going on, but it does appear Amazon is having some serious issues with this particular promotion.

Edit: Okay, a brief update, and it gets weirder. If you go to the page of one of the books, like War Brides, you can find a link to the promo page. When I tried it the first time, I got an error saying I had already redeemed it and it was only once per account. But the books aren't in my account.

Second try I got the something has gone wrong error.

However, I just checked my email and they were delivered to my Kindle App on my computer.

Try that and see if you have yours.

(They're now in calibre and on my ebook!)

Same here. When I was verifying my links for this deal in the Audiobook thread, it wouldn't load. Though I was able to get this deal shortly after this offer was posted without a hitch.

got lots of errors, as everyone else. Never showed up in my library (tried two accounts). Managed to get them in one, by long chat with support; they had to credit my account with the full amount of the books cost, then I had to buy them and check the summary invoice, to make sure the promo was used.

I checked both the Kindle app on my phone and Paperwhite, not available on either. There's also not been a receipt and they still show as unpurchased on the web site.

I already had Timebound from when it was free once before, and that's the only one I was really interested in. I'm not going to bother dealing with support to get the other two.

Once again, non-fiction is underrepresented. Well, in this case, not represented at all.

I learned a little fact a few days ago that I'd like to share with you, however. About (very close to) 25% of ebooks sold are non-fiction; about 75% sold are fiction. Logically, then, fiction would be promoted four times as much as non-fiction (25% is 1/4 of the total of 100% or, to look at it another way, 4 times 25% is 100%). Right? At least that's what I'll keep telling myself when I run across snubs like this one. haha

The marketing spend percentages should be based on revenue from each category, not sales quantities. Taking it even further, the marketing spend should be based on the profit levels of each category.

The post was largely tongue-in-cheek. I do think that what you said makes more sense. Who knows what the book publishers and/or retailers really do, though.

There's an adage that seems to work most of the time when you want to know why a company, a person, the government, et al. does something, though: "follow the money."

I'm sure that the raw information necessary to calculate the the amount of promotion compared to profit margin, etc. is available somewhere--probably in something like a trade journal. I, for one, would be interested in knowing it. If I ever run across that information, I'll post it--maybe someone else would be interested in knowing it.
