Smith, Thorne: Haunts and By-Paths and Other Poems. V1. 17 Sept 2015

This is Thorne Smith's book of poetry. It was originally published in 1919. As far as I know, it has never been posted anywhere.

I created this book from photographs of the pages from a copy that made available to me at the Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation and Fantasy in Toronto. They hold copies of all of Smith's books and allowed to photograph them in the library (it is a reference collection). Their help was essential. I could not have produced this (and the other books) without it.

This is very much appreciated. Always grateful for poetry.

One formatting question, out of curiosity: Why the super-large left margin? Were you designing for a particular device? On my Aura HD it didn't look very nice, and caused an unnecessarily high number of lines to overflow. I set it it to 4.5em instead of your 8em in the style sheet and find it much easier to read.

But that's nitpicking. Very nice poetry collection; looking forward to the next one you've announced!

Interesting. I don't remember how I arrived at 8em. I Think I was doing some other poems and I needed some quite deep indentations. I don't remember offhand what it was. I just copied the css from whatever it was. It also looked good with the default font size on my T-3. But if I increase the font size the lines start to overflow quite badly. There a couple of layout issue I'm thinking of fixing and I think changing the left margin to 4em would be an improvement. I like a wide margin for short lines but you're right. It should be smaller.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I'm working on the Edwin Markham books at the moment and I had just copied the css from the Thorne book. I do think the narrower margin will work better. Thanks.
