Looking for a Browser that isn't Deeply Flawed
when I say deeply flawed, I mean:
Firefox: Great, but I find it next to impossible to hit the little 'X' on the tabs to close tabs. So bad, I stopped using FF. Chrome: Great, but occasionally it freezes for long periods. Getting really annoying. All other browsers I've tried (Boat, Dolphin, Stock, etc): When I quite naturally slide my thumb up or down on either side of the page to scroll, it zooms! Stupid design that AFAIK can't be turned off. Anyone know an alternative that doesn't have these problems, or better still, a way to fix these problems within said browsers. I can see why some people people prefer I-pads. *Gasp* |

I'm sort of hooked on the UC browser (tablet version) right now. I'm sure it will piss me off at some point, though. They all eventually do.

I use the Dolphin browser and it doesn't zoom, if I slide. Maybe you somehow double click or your device registers your sliding as a double click? Do you have the same issue, if you read pdfs? Then that is the problem.

I haven't found anything better than Chrome, for all it's flaws. Fastest for me. Tried Javelin and liked some of it's features, but it's slow as molasses.

I love Chrome. Unfortunately, it turned into a huge, battery-sucking blackhole on my device. After several complete resets and cache wipes, it still refused to play nice with my battery. So it had to go. With it gone, I'm back up to 10-12 hours of average battery life on my Nexus 7 (2013). Whereas WITH Chrome (latest version), I was at 7-9. If they get that under control, I'd switch back to Chrome in a heart-beat.

For those of you that use Chrome, how do you deal with the lack of text reflow? To me that's got to be one of the stupidest things Google has done. How can you use a browser on a small device if you can't make the text larger and visible?

My favorite is Android Browser but since the advent of KitKat it no longer works and Googe removed it from the play store, sending a message thar said I should "upgrade to a more modern browser". Fortunately I had a back up copy so I wasn't totaly skunked. I guess I'm stuck with Jelly Bean until I can find a decent browser. Regards-John |

I discovered Pale Moon on the XDA forums and have been using it for about a month now.
I like it so much that I'm running it on all my devices. It's built on FireFox so it's comfortably familiar, but just seems faster and smoother and I didn't have to give up my favorite extensions. It's enough like FireFox that it may not remedy your closing tabs problem though. |

Well, I'd forgotten it's not on Google Play so there will be no update notifications and I see the developer posted an update on 8/3, which I've just downloaded so can't vouch for the latest version. From the Download link If you hit the "Up to a higher level directory" on the dowload page you will see the one I've been using, 24.7b2.
