Anthology authors

I have a number of anthologies where when I download the metadata, it turns it into editor & author & author & author ... & author, which is nice for searching for short stories by an author, but it causes problems when trying to save the ebook if the number of authors is long. Is there some way to have the long list of authors available for searching, but at the same time only save the book in the name of the editor?

@eschwartz -- that was a little too brief for me; could you expand on it a little please?

Like where do you use it, and maybe a pointer to the manual that explains the options?

It is the template for author-sort, but modified with the sublist function. sublist shortens lists and takes 4 parameters; here it is used to sublist only the first author in author_sort:

the first parameter is implied in template mode, it is the template field which was previously defined as author_sort. That is what we are operating on.

the second and third are the start through end indices of the list (here, author_sort) which should be returned. using "0,1" returns the zeroth through first elements of the list.

The fourth parameter is the divider. In this case, "&" divides each author in author_sort

The documentation for templates is at http:/manual.calibre-ebook.com/template_lang.html

My primary Calibre library is on FreeBSD, but when I try to rsync it to Linux, it fails to copy a few files because the file name is too long, so it's not just when I copy the files to my ereader.

Report a bug. It should be truncated to a length that works everywhere; if not, calibre is deviating from Kovid's design.

The workarounds like saving to a sublist, or saving extra authors in a custom column for usage with the library files, are meant for prettying the filenames. You could solve your problem that way but Kovid should still know about this.

calibre truncates all paths in the library to less than 500 characters (relative to the top level folder) on non-windows operating system. That is well within linux file length limits. Though of course, as with everything on linux, there is no well defined file length limit, since it varies with filesystem, kernel and mount options. I'm guessing the OP is copying files to some unusual filesystem on linux, like a network share or a windows filesystem.

I use sublist as in eschwartz's post in a custom column built from other columns.
I then use the column to build collections on my readers from instead of author_sort.

Your filename (not path) is too long for eCryptFS: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questi...-with-ecryptfs
