WARNING: Feature parity also includes losing the USE_ALT_FONTS "feature".

I can no longer see my extra fonts, but it's not a big deal to me, but might be for you.

That's very good news. Amazon do have a good track record when it comes to retro-fitting new firmware features to older hardware. Any idea if there's an update for the Kindle Touch?

I'm going to try and keep wifi off as much as possible and not update. Everything I love about my PW will be lost to the new update.

I'm going to be very brave (and cheeky) and I'm going to update hubbys Kindle.

If I like what I see I might update mine, but then remove all my personal document ebooks from Amazon and side load embeded AZW3's via USB like I do for my Kobo Aura. Losing Whispersync is unfortunate but not as bad as losing my font.

I expect to lose Whispersync as I want to embed my font and still have my cover show on the PW. From what I've read it's best to sideload the AZW3 via USB rather than send to Kindle and use the Amazon cloud to deliver. Which is how I use my Kobo anyway.

So far it's been plain sailing. I haven't had to clean up any collections at all. I love the page flip, and the new notes feature, and I really want to use the vocabulary builder.

I tested the new features on an Amazon purchased book, a personal document book and a sideloaded AZW3 with the embedded font (which worked perfectly) so I may go for it.

@Josieb1: Provided you didn't mangle the Calibre conversion settings for MOBI/AZW3 (namely, enabling the 'FB sharing' checkbox thingy), and you "Send To Device" over USB, you won't lose whispersync, and you won't lose the cover view thumbnails either.
