Amazon Local Delivery

I ordered some items from Amazon and for the first time had an option to have them delivered the next morning for $4 using local delivery. This is the first time I had that option. I had read about this option coming but was surprised to see it available.

I am in the metro DC area.

I've had this option for a while now, but only on a few items - it seems to depend on whether the item that you ordered is in a nearby distribution center or not.

I have had this option for awhile too. I used it at Christmas time on something I couldn't find in-store, and it was pretty neat to have same day delivery. It probably depends case by case on whether it is worth $3.99. I also have noticed on items available for local service that they are often delivered next day (one day early) if I choose 2-day delivery through Prime.

When I ordered my Kindle some time ago, there was a "same-day delivery" option, which I selected for giggles.

Sure enough, the warehouse here had it dropped off on the door-step about 4 hours after I placed the order. I was impressed.

I had never seen it before. It is a cool option.

I just had to try - doesn't look like it's made its way into my town yet.

I have not seen it offered but have noticed some of our deliveries come from a plain white van from OR so they must be getting close :-)

Soon enough, Amazon will have a fleet of black vans/ yellow lettering competing with the brown van/ yellow lettering company.

They already have these in some Seattle area neighborhoods:

This will come with a downside when they establish a presence in your state and then start collecting state taxes.

They always have charged sales tax in my state, since their headquarters are located here.

I read an article in either the Financil Times or the Economist where it stated that Amazon was giving up the tax fight in favor of building more warehouses so that they could o local delivery. This should low them to compete more directly with Walmart.
