A true classic in the canon of unintentional humour. The author, undaunted by his utter ignorance of English, constructed a Portuguese-English phrase-book with the help of a Portuguese-French phrase-book and a French-English dictionary. The result is hilarious, and vaguely poetic. For example, under the section "Idiotisms and proverbs" (Yes, really!), you find "Nothing some money, nothing some Swiss".

The book is based on the text from Project Gutenberg. The typos are preserved from the original manuscript.

Wikipedia says the book is by Pedro Carolino, though.

Thanks for pointing that out, Jellby. Doesn't look like Senõr da Fonseca would have appreciated being attributed as the author
