I dropped my Touch
I was moving my Touch from one pocket to another and I dropped it! Yikes!
The touch was in a 'Roots' leather sleeve but the point of impact was the top right corner. It bounced about a foot off the pavement and dropped onto its back. I guess it's true what some have said "everything has at least one drop in it". My touch did. The worst of it was that in places the case came apart (slightly) and I was able to snap it back together again. It seems it's no worse for the drop but time will tell. So far it's A-OK (but I'm not planning on dropping it again). |

Thank you for your drop test report. Nice to know it wasn't damaged. I don't plan to duplicate your drop test.

I had dropped mine in the airport on a thin carpet from about two feet. My case also slightly seperated, but I also receive a free factory reset clearing all my books as an added side benefit. There is something inside that is sensitive to a jolt and can cause a rest.
I snapped the cover back together and sync'd and got back most of my books. Only issue was I had to read on the bare bones stock firmware until I had access again. No long term issues so far, still works great. |

I was coming up the stairs and tripped at home over the summer and threw it a good 4-5 feet onto hard wood, and didn't have it in the case at the time. no noticeable damage.

After I clicked on this thread but before my browser loaded the following went through my mind: wait a minute! Stop! This is going to be one of those I dropped it and now it doesn't work so Kobo should replace it for me posts.
Imagine my surprise when it wasn't. I too have a small ding in the upper right corner of my reader from a drop. Fifty-fifty chance to land on the relatively unprotected corners or the leather protect corners. Keep me away from a casino. |

No case. Dropped from table top onto concrete patio, landed on long side and fell over on the screen, didn't bounce, small piece of plastic scraped off above one corner. Works fine, like it was never dropped.

Thanks for all the testing, everyone!
I feel slightly more safe carrying my Kobo everyday on the bus without a case. |

Well that's not good.
You're lucky. I bought my Touch Saturday and haven't dropped it, but the screen's bust.
Typical signs. A strip up the LH side and the bottom of the screen show only vertical lines. Also my PC no longer sees it as a USB device, which seems odd. It's going back to WH Smiths tomorrow. |

IMHO I don't think the biggest danger to e-ink screens is dropping but is twisting/bending of the body of the device. |

I dropped my Kobo Touch a couple times but I have an ex-point cover on it and didn't drop it from any significant height so it really didn't damage anything.. Maybe a minor scuff on the cover though. |

Only time I damaged Kobo wifi was not dropped. It was in soft slip case from Borders laying under a jacket on console of small roadster while driving for 1 hour. At end of trip screen was damaged probably by elbow pressure. Soft case gave false sense of protection. I now use my Kobo wifi bare with out extra protection. I like the slim light Kobo without added bulk.
