Question Can I generate sum of column or columns?

Kindly Calibre Gurus:

Is there a relatively easy way to sum a custom column "Price" which has floating point numbers as its format? If so, where does the result display? If I want to get really fancy, can I sum column Price and column Shopping List to see how much the projected total would be? I'm not good at regex, so simplified instructions would be most appreciated.

FWIW, I'm running Calibre 8.20 on a Mac OS 10.7 and on a Win 7 64 bit PC, though I would think that this would work the same way for both.

This seems like something which has probably been asked and answered, and most likely in the Manual. If so, I'm missing it. If it has been answered here before, I'm not searching correctly. Sorry. I did try to do my homework. Thank you so much.

It may have been asked, but in over two years I can't recall this being asked or answered. I don't believe what you want is a main feature, but with the robust template programming language available to the end user I can't say for sure that it's impossible.

Thank you. I feel so much better that I am not just missing something obvious. \

I doubt summing a column is possible (the template language acts only on a single book at a time), but you should be able to sum the fields from two columns for a single book and output the result in a third column

You could create a CSV catalog, import that to your favourite spreadsheet application and use that to sum.

Thank you, all. I was trying to skip the export / import steps, but that will work, too. I see now that this works on one book at a time, not across them. I appreciate that you took the time to answer this.
