Michael Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg passes at 64
I just saw this sad news at Teleread and the Project Gutenberg site. Michael Hart passed away yesterday at the age of 64. Here's the link to his obituary:

I remember seeing his name in the Project Gutenberg Canada mailing lists, and I knew he was involved there, but I had no idea that he invented ebooks. I remember reading PG editions of books assigned in high school English all the way through to the end of uni. It was a great source for picking up texts for natural language parsing too.

Hart gave us a lot and we lost him too soon.

This is very sad news. I absolutely adore PG, and am always grabbing stuff from there. I never knew he was the creator, just figured he was one of the big contributors.

I get a 403 access forbidden message accusing me of being a bot at the above link, even from the link in the main page. I can get to the main page, though.

Maybe Comcast is using a proxy and all access to Project Gutenberg from Comcast looks like it is coming from the same IP address.

By founding and promoting Project Gutenberg he has had an enormous and lasting impact on the world. An amazing legacy, that looks set to continue his work for many years.
