Anybody know whether the EE can load the Google ebookstore app? If so, where can we get it - besides the android marketplace that is...

No - it requires Android 2.1, and the eDGe is at 1.6. enTourage is working on the Android 2.2 update, at which point in theory we can use the Google eBookstore app - assuming it doesn't require Android Market access (which Google doesn't give to non-phone devices yet).

That's what I thought, re: 1.6/2.1. I thought, however, that Android 2.2 allows access to Android Market for non-phone devices, e.g. one of the changes associated with the update. Is that not the case?

Market access is independent of the version of Android. For example, the latest round of Archos tablets have 2.2, but still have no market access. Some clever Archos fans have since released hacks that circumvent this though.
