I've just received an email that CyberRead is closing down. There's also a notice on their forums.

I suspect it will not be the last ebook store to close in 2011.

They've been around for a while - I first noticed them towards the end of 2008. They offered Mobipocket and other formats as well as ePub.

Their general manager, Clint Brauer had an account here at mobileread (ClintBrauer), although I see he hasn't been on since 23rd December 2009.

CyberRead started off selling mostly Mobipocket eBooks and then they expanded to MS Reader and finally to ePub. But their prices were high without any sales going on. But they used to have some good sales which made their prices reasonable.

The problem is that with the Agency model, (my guess) is that due to their business model, it just wasn't able to be sustainable.

I just got the email too.
I am sad they were the first ebook store I ever bought from.
They were one of the few ebook stores besides B.O.B and Fictionwise that took Paypal.
